If you have a cat at home and also love houseplants, here are some plants that you should strike off the list when decorating your home as they are particularly toxic to cats:

  • Sago palm
    While this plant is poisonous, its seeds are very poisonous. One of the houseplants that are toxic for cats, even consuming a few seeds of this plant can be dangerous for your cat.
    Consuming the seeds, leaves, or the root can lead to vomiting and diarrhea. It can even cause liver failure, and if left untreated, lead to death.
  • Lilies
    Lilies are common houseplants with colorful and attractive flowers. Most people choose to decorate their homes with lilies to add to the aesthetics. While lily plants look pretty, they are not safe for your cat. They are on the list of the most toxic plants for your cat, and eating the flowers of this plant can cause kidney failure in extreme cases. In other cases, it causes vomiting, loss of appetite, and drooling.
  • Monstera deliciosa
    Popularly known as the Swiss cheese plant, this is a highly toxic plant for cats. It can be easily grown indoors, but cats are attracted to leaves and tend to nibble on them, so it is not a good idea to have both a cat and a Swiss cheese plant at home.
    This plant is toxic and can lead to irritation in the mouth and the oral cavity. It can also cause drooling from the mouth and can lead to trouble while swallowing.

If your cat eats just a little of the plant, it may not cause a severe issue. However, ingesting too much of this plant can lead to poisoning in cats.   • Aloe
    Aloe vera is another common houseplant that is toxic for cats. It is popular for its cosmetic value as the gel from the leaves of this plant is very good for the skin of humans. Having said that, the plant is not good for your cat as the alkaloids in it can lead to poisoning.
    Loss of appetite, increased urination and red-colored urine, vomiting, diarrhea, and depression are some of the symptoms of aloe poisoning.
  • Golden pothos
    Also known as the devil’s ivy, this is a colorful houseplant that is a common choice for home decor. The plant has calcium oxalate crystals that are harmful to cats, and it causes difficulty while swallowing and leads to drooling from the mouth.
